For this season's eco-friendly "American Idol" finale on Wednesday, May 21 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), FOX has brought together various partners who will provide renewable energy for the theater and media areas. The partnerships will help FOX reduce "American Idol's" impact on the world's climate and help the network reach its goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2010. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will provide a combination of solar, wind and hydropower energy for the season finale held at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE. In addition, E-Village will provide supplemental solar power in the media arrivals area. After the finale, E-Village will donate and install the 2.3-kilowatt solar electric system to the Camino Nuevo Charter Academy to be used with educational curriculum provided by the Solar 4R Schools program.

Solar 4R Schools (S4RS), developed and managed by the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, fosters knowledge and excitement about renewable energy technology by delivering hands-on experience to students, parents, educators, utilities, installers, and municipalities throughout the United States. The most comprehensive solar schools program in the country, S4RS provides curriculum, classroom activities and real-time data monitoring, and has installed solar-electric systems in nearly 100 schools in 16 states.

The Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a Portland, Ore.-based nonprofit organization, was established in 1998 to further the development and use of new renewable energy resources and restore watershed ecosystems. Through revenues generated from the sale of green power products, BEF funds projects that support new renewable energy projects from solar, wind and biomass and restore damaged watersheds. Revenues generated from its sales of Green Tags directly support additional new watershed restoration and renewable energy projects.
